hi, it’s me, matilda

Matilda Palmu is Helsinki-based artist, designer, teacher and dreamer. She works in the borderline of art and design. Artistic expression and design based problem solving go hand in hand in her work. It’s important to Matilda that her works have some kind of statement or a story. She believes that visual objects are strong mediums for transmitting messages.

Matilda has background in crafts, product and furniture design, applied arts and currently she’s doing her MA studies in the field of textile design. Art has gradually taken over her work and she describes her work as design art.

“To see beauty around you, you have to learn how to see. For me a huge part of learning how to be a designer and an artist was to learn how to see. I observe the world in great curiosity and in that curiosity my creativity comes from. I’m intuitive, empathetic and sensitive person and those qualities are my strongest assets as a designer and an artist.

I love working with different materials and I tend to see materials from a broad perspective. Material for me can be something tangible as well as something quite abstract such as human interaction or emotions. Sometimes I let the material take over and lead the way in my creative process.

At the moment I’m studying textile design and it has been very inspirational and liberating. I feel that textiles are perfect medium for transmitting stories - there’s endless opportunities with color, material and pattern combinations. In a short period of time textiles have become my passion and I’m excited to see where this new choice of material will take me. “

I’m open for many different kind of collaborations and comission works.

Don’t hesitate to contact me :)
